Welcome

With the number of our friends growing who had been to Vietnam, come home and raved about it, we thought it was high time that we went to see what all the fuss was about.  Finding time was the hardest thing: the gap needed to converge with an MBA semester break for Dave and a lull in Flick's selling cycle.  Not wasting any time we left on the evening of Saturday 23 April mere hours after Dave's exam, and returned late on Tuesday 16 May so he could attend his first new class the next day.

Given the time pressure we elected to do a tour, this time with The Imaginative Traveller (or ImTrav for those in the know), with whom Dave had travelled through the Middle East and Turkey in 1995.  They stick to relatively small groups and the itinerary we found was great, starting in Hanoi in the North and finishing in Ho Chi Minh City (formerly Saigon) in the South via trekking & homestays in the Hill Tribe region, Halong Bay, the old imperial capital of Hue, lovely Hoi Ann, Nha Trang & nearby Whale Island.

It just so happened that our friends James & Corinne were travelling in the region at the same time (taking a roundabout route from NZ to Canada, where they'll be based for the next few years) and we had also discussed the possibility of holidaying with John (JP) & Alicia who are based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.  Eventually we settled on a rendezvous in Siem Reap, Cambodia, after we finished our tour in Saigon for a few days of templing in the amazing Angkor complex.  We also managed to squeeze in a couple of days in KL with John & Alicia at the end of the trip.

Well, many superlatives later we're back in Oz but itching to return to the region.  We had a great time and its been hard culling our 460 photos to bring you the selection in this site.  Click on the links to the left to see some of the highlights.

Happy travels,
Dave & Flick
