Franz Joseph Glacier, New Zealand
This is a view of the fog draped glacier partially reflected in a small pond. Located in the Westland district of the South Island of New Zealand, Franz Josef Glacier was named after the emperor of Austria by its discoverer, Julius von Haast. Although the glacier is generally in retreat, there have been some significant advances, even as recently as 1988. This glacier is located about 25km north of Fox Glacier, another of the better known glaciers of the region. |

Southern Ocean, Fleurieu Peninsula, South Australia
I came upon this view of the Southern Ocean while bushwalking in the Deep Creek Conservation Park which is located on the Fleurieu Peninsula about 100km south of Adelaide and about 40km southwest of Victor Harbor. This area marks the southern end of the Heysen Trail which continues north for over 1000km through the Mt. Lofty and Flinders Ranges to end in Parachilna Gorge just north of Wilpena Pound. |

Curtain Springs, Northern Territories, Australia
The sprawling metropolis of Curtain Springs in the Northern Territories of Australia. In the distance you can see Mount Connor. After driving for several hours from King's Canyon this is seemed like a huge settlement. If you look carefully you can see the MOBIL sign on the left hand side of the image. |

Lapu Lapu City, The Philippines
The Philippinos have turned surplus WW-II era military Jeeps into colorful "Jeepnys" which have become a ubiquitous form of public transportation. This shot was taken from a minibus that I was taking to the airport of Cebu, one of the Philippine islands. The Jeepnys have been so heavily modified that it's difficult to tell that they ever were anything else but colorful busses. |

Hobart, Tasmania
I took this shot during a tour of the Cascade Brewery. It is the oldest continuously operating brewery in Australia. The building itself is a beautiful stone building that has been partially built using convict labor. To see a large picture of the outside of the brewery, click here. On the brewery picture you can see the change in the type of brick above the second level of windows. The part below was completed in 1824 by convict labor and the rest was finished in 1927 by free labor. |

Port Arthur, Tasmania
A view from the dock at Port Arthur of the infamous convict settlement. This is where the hardest-core criminals were sent. Criminals from the UK were sent to various parts of New South Wales, Victora and Tasmania. Port Arthur, however, was especially created for those who re-offended in Australia or those convicted of particularly serious offenses. |
